Vote NO on 4

Amendment 4 is a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution that would essentially establish an unlimited right to abortion throughout pregnancy even when the heartbeat of the preborn child is detected, when the preborn child can experience pain, and when the child is capable of living outside the womb.

Amendment 4 will appear on the November 5, 2024, ballot and require approval from 60% of the electorate to pass.

We urge all parishes, schools, families, ministries, and individual Catholics to encourage voters to join in our opposition and reject this extreme and ill-conceived proposition.

Upcoming Events

The Archdiocese will be hosting a few events on the months prior to the Elections to spread the word in our advocacy efforts opposing Amendment 4.

Prayer to Defeat Florida's

Ever-living God, you give life and desire a future for all your children. Take hold of our nation, state, and community and awaken in every heart awe for the gift of life. Send your Spirit to strengthen us with wisdom and fortitude as we defend mothers and children in Florida from laws that disregard their health and safety.

Mary and Joseph trusted in you and welcomed Jesus into our broken world. God Almighty, we ask their intercession to protect the preborn and their mothers, and to guide all parents in raising their children. May they help us build a civilization of love by upholding the sacredness of life and accompanying pregnant women in need. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Our Lady, Mother of the Family, pray for us!

St. Joseph, Protector of the Unborn, pray for us!

Prayer Candles +

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
John 8:12

LET HIS LIGHT SHINE!!

In the Catholic church, light has always had a special significance because it represents Christ. We know that Jesus called himself the Light of the world. Additionally, St. John’s Gospel connects Christ with the imagery of light in John 1:4: “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Lighting a candle for someone living or deceased is a way to both extend your prayers and show solidarity with the person the prayer is being made on behalf of. We also believe in the importance of our prayers for those who have died, asking the Lord to forgive any sins they may have committed due to human frailty, but it is also a great way to keep their memory alive as we honor who they were and the good they did. The faithful also light candles as a sign of gratitude to God for answered prayers.

Here, at Our Lady of the Lakes, we want to offer you this opportunity to pray for all your intentions with the Prayer Candles placed in our lobby.

These candles can be lit for:

  • The health of someone
  • In memory of someone who has passed away
  • In thanksgiving for a grace or favor granted to you
  • The intentions of someone dear to you (living)

To request your Prayer Candle, please fill the online form.

For more information, please contact the office at: (305) 558-2202.
