Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Chris- tians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the Church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines.

The pandemic hit particularly hard the Christians in the Holy Land. Most of them depend on pilgrimages to work. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection is also necessary to meet the basic needs of the People of God still living in this Land where the Church was born. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

Please be generous!

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence (that is, to abstain from meat and items made with meat). For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59.

When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

Jesus left a beautiful legacy of love‐ a unifying love. It is one of the greatest gifts He has given us, and our faith calls us to live out that love by sharing it with others. His love is kind and patient; it is selfless and humble; it is enduring through difficult times and rejoices in the truth.

The love we are called to live is not found in career success or material things, but rather is centered on helping others…. Through your support of the ABCD, you help our Catholic Church here in South Florida reach out to those brothers and sisters Jesus speaks about in the Gospel. We are humbled by your generosity and support of the Archbishop’s Charities and Development Drive (ABCD). Your sacrificial generosity truly bears witness to our faith and the essence of being an embodiment of the Church. If you have yet to make your gift, please donate today!

Prayer Candles +

Tuesday, March 28, 2023

"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
John 8:12

LET HIS LIGHT SHINE!!

In the Catholic church, light has always had a special significance because it represents Christ. We know that Jesus called himself the Light of the world. Additionally, St. John’s Gospel connects Christ with the imagery of light in John 1:4: “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Lighting a candle for someone living or deceased is a way to both extend your prayers and show solidarity with the person the prayer is being made on behalf of. We also believe in the importance of our prayers for those who have died, asking the Lord to forgive any sins they may have committed due to human frailty, but it is also a great way to keep their memory alive as we honor who they were and the good they did. The faithful also light candles as a sign of gratitude to God for answered prayers.

Here, at Our Lady of the Lakes, we want to offer you this opportunity to pray for all your intentions with the Prayer Candles placed in our lobby.

These candles can be lit for:

  • The health of someone
  • In memory of someone who has passed away
  • In thanksgiving for a grace or favor granted to you
  • The intentions of someone dear to you (living)

To request your Prayer Candle, please fill the online form.
